Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun is a shounen shoujo-manga parody. The titular character Nozaki-kun is the love interest of heroine Sakura, and holds a secret double life as a shoujo manga artist. This one aspect provides the material for all of the show’s gags, and I could see this show getting pretty old pretty quickly. (But then again, there have been dozens of successful anime about four girls doing absolutely nothing.)
Regardless, I want to respond to a post by Scamp in which he goes off on a rant about how Nozaki-kun shouldn’t turn into Gintama, which in his words, “spends 20 episodes parodying goofy shounen logic and then goes and pulls a 3-4 episode arc of goofy shounen logic with a straight face. They are always the worst parts of Gintama.” Scamp then makes a blatant attempt to troll people into arguing for Gintama, but I’ll bite at the line.

Hey flomu, I’ve noticed you haven’t posted much recently. What have you been watching this season?
I’ve been watching a gem of a show called Suisei no Gargantia. It disregards your usual mecha anime stereotypes and instead goes for a more slice of life feel, emphasizing moral battles over physical ones. It’s also a coming-of-age story masked under a “Stick it to Authority!” theme, but it accomplishes this without seeming cheesy or dwelling so long on the moral of the story that various fallacies pop up.
And the visuals aren’t half bad, either!

For the sake of making Mikoto & Co. look cool and badass, there’s always the oblivious Level 0 trash that appear out of nowhere. Why not younger, student evil people? Why are all of the bad guys 20 to 30-year-old men without any esper powers? What are you trying to say about powerless men in their twenties? Why can’t they be good guys too? Why can’t I become an electromeister??
