Top five OPs of Spring 2009

I had nothing else to put here.

Of course, this isn’t counting Haruhi (2009).
“Bouken Desho Desho” is beyond-godly.

#5: “Future Stream” (Hatsukoi Limited)

Because youtube never has the actual OP to anything, here’s a link.

This song is awesome.  Catchy, awesome, good, uh… catchy, and I’m not the only one to say so.  Though the animation ain’t all that impressive (“Kuusou Rumba” > everything in that fer’ sure), it’s got an epic song.

#4: “Falling Down” (Eden of the East)

This has got to be one of the best displays of OP animation I’ve ever seen (Kuusou Rumba > this, still).  Incredible eye candy to an English song actually sung by Englishmen (or, if you prefer, English speakers*).  And it’s not like it’s totally random – the words in the background mean something, unlike in ef‘s OPs (German?  Come on.).

#3: “Summer Rain” (Cross Game)

“Summer Rain” is one of the few anime songs I love with a male singer.  Things like Blood+‘s second OP are like chalk on a nailboard to me.  Cross Game‘s first OP has some serious lack of animating skills (that baseball with Wakaba on it looks like it alternates between two frames) – though the animation as a whole fits the rather laid back song very well.

#2: “nO limiT” (Basquash!)

Note that I hate this animation of the OP.  The one that comes later (it’s in episodes 2 – 8 so far, I think), with the moon idols, is a lot better.

I’m amazed at how damn fast those words some out.  It’s like Pre-Parade x 3, and twice as good.  The tweaked voices sound annoying at first, but it grew on me, and now I speak like a robot.

#1: “Cagayake Girls!” (K-ON!)

Because a KyoAni anime has to come up in every other post.

But really, this song is great.  I love the animation, and it synches perfectly with the song (and so do the subs – what an incredible job subbing groups did on that…!).  I love this song so much that it was registered on my list of awesome only a week after I heard it.

And that’s it.  Shitty Filler list post is filler.

In other news, I wore my Naruto shirt to school today and became gar.

there arent 5 that i like, now if you include ED’s then i could do

  2. bob not 51 says:

I raged so hard at this post, you damn troll.

Higashi no Eden is number one for me. I haven’t seen Cross Game (although I really want to) because I’m already watching a Baseball related show in Touch.

    K-ON is an obvious choice.

The Hatsukoi Limited OP almost reminds me of an Inuyasha OP (song-wise obviously), which is a large plus. Although I also haven’t watched that show either.

They’re all good OP’s, although I would maybe add Natsu no Arashi in there somewhere, although it would probably be around 4 or 5. I just love the animation style of it. Freeze frames and what not.

  4. Eden of the East’s OP is the best one for me. Oh wait, K-ON!’s OP is the top one. Oh wait, ill just make a post about that later.

Am I the only one who thinks that Cross Game’s OP feels like 80’s or 90’s OP?

  5. fangzhao says:

Bah. Nobody appreciates the awesomeness that is (are? lol) Summer Rain and No limit.

@jersey: Oh wow. I actually could list off a few more OP runner-ups (IMO) to this list!

    @bob: no you!

@glothelegend: Eden’s OP is certainly one sweet piece of eye sugar cube, but I like the other songs a lot more. And I’ve heard some great things about Touch (though atm, I’m hearing more about Cross Game).

Natsu no Arashi’s OP is very interesting, to say the least. Though I really don’t like the song – pretty much the only SHAFT OP that I don’t love.

@Kairu: Cross Game’s OP certainly does feel retro. Even though I generally hate retro, I’m not complaining. It’s too good!

I’m about half way done with Touch (episode 48 or so) and it’s God Damn Phenomenal. Cross Game looks very similar in it’s animation and stuff, even with it’s OP. That’s why I’m saving it.

      • glothelegend says:

To be honest, when I watch the OP of Cross Game, I almost feel like it’s a complete rip off of Touch. The character’s almost look exactly the same. That just makes me want to watch it more.

  6. Shinky says:

Hahaa. I see. K-On still top the chart eh? ^.^

  7. npal says:

Ok, so after having heard the songs I hadn’t already…

Meh… The best song for me this season is KOKIA’s KARMA for Phantom. I also like Shangri la’s ED, but that’s not out yet, last time I checked (and some eps have different EDs for some reason, anyway I mean the usual one).

K-ON’s OP is cute, but I’d rather submit myself to Lucky Star OP torture than actually have it on my playlist, and that’s saying a lot 😛 (No wait, it doesn’t… LS just has Konata… Konata rules, until Yui becomes a hardcore otaku).

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood opening wins.

  9. jerseyse410 says:

ok i like the OP to phantom but i go nuts over the choral inserts, same thing with guin sada, i like the ED but i LOVE the benedictus opening, such a beautiful song when done in high latin.

  10. fangzhao says:

@glothelegend: I’ve heard that Mitsuru Adachi (creator of Cross Game and Touch) has a habit of making everything he does look the same. I guess it’s okay if it’s good, right?

@Shinky: Haha, yeah. Because KyoAni always has to be #1, no matter how good/bad their anime really are.

@npal: Eh, I didn’t watch more than one episode of Phantom, so I wouldn’t know about that. And hey, LS and K-ON! both have good OPs! D:<

@simplybill: tru.dat, but I think that these own more.

    @jerseyse410: Bah. I guess I'll go check out Phantom's OP then….
