A Kanon ad on ANN

…was so stupid that I just have to post about it.

“Of course it can!  Are you stupid or something?”

Is this some sort of rhetorical question or something?  I’m pretty sure that it’s blatantly obvious that a future needs a past to support it.

Yeah, yeah, “the theme of Kanon” and whatnot, but still, this is not an actual question (and it’s pretty ambiguous as to if it’s actually a rhetorical question).

What the hell is this shit?

“A Sad Girl in Snow Story?”  What is that supposed to mean?

Does it mean “a story about a sad girl in snow,” or does it mean “a sad girl in a snow story?”  However you look at it, neither of the two possible meanings makes sense.  And what’s worse is that the ad isn’t on some random website for foreigners.  It’s on ANN, an American website fully in English.

“Kanon the Complete Series Boxset” is pretty much the only runon phrase that I’ve ever seen.  It’s not a complete sentence, and it’s still a runon.  Grats to the genius who thought that up.

Piece the Puzzle Together!  YES!
I will learn about the Sad Girl in Snow Story!  NOW I’M PUMPED!

I propose some changes to this ad:

It makes about as much sense as the original, and the message comes across even more clear: “GIVE US YOUR MONEY”

“Sad girls in snow”is a genre that Kanon created. There’s even a board on iichan dedicated to it.

@jerseyse410: Ah, I love Team America!

@Anon: Hahah, I actually know that, but does the ad need to call Kanon a “Sad Girl in Snow” anime? I mean, it’s not like it’s an official genre!

  4. Roy Mustang says:

I like the original Kanon commericals better. Cute shots of the girls being cute, a hint at the storyline, a nice tempo song at the end and no f******* voiceovers!

Leave it to the ad agencies to ruin this formula and try to make it into a Hollywood trailer.

  5. Taka says:

The fact that they refer to it as a “sad girl in snow” story makes me think the ad is supposed to be humorous.

The “just buy our DVD dammit” photoshop was very accurate though.

  6. “Can the apple exist without a banana?”

    Hmm.. Sounds plausible.. And weird.

  8. fangzhao says:

@Roy Mustang: Hey, this was only a little banner-ad thing! (Though it’s damn bad at that!)

@Taka: Yeah! It’s basically “NONSENSE NONSENSE MONEY PLEASE”

    @Kairu: I’m not so sure about plausible…!

@TheBigN and Michael Flux: Thanks for the support! (:
