What’s up with all of the anime nowadays with characters losing their memories?
I watched three anime episodes yesterday morning, and there were “Who am I?” characters in all three of them. It’s like some kind of disease…
Taito Teito from 07-Ghost doesn’t remember a thing about his past, and thus plot is formed when he discovers that Mr. Blue hair is responsible for his father’s death.
Dan from Basquash doesn’t remember his “reciprocated” loving, bakunyuu-possessing childhood friend/partner. Though this may just be a result of his “I didn’t really care and I’m kind of stupid anyway” nature, it’s still some form of memory loss!
Goku from Dragon Ball Kai doesn’t remember his brother ^ Radditz ^ or his mission to destroy the Earth.
Akira from Eden of the East doesn’t remember anything, wandering the streets of D.C. with a gun, a cell phone charged with eighty million dollars, and no clothes whatsoever.
Misao from Asura Cryin’ doesn’t even know why she’s a ghost or how she died!
Guin from Guin Saga doesn’t even know why he looks like a leopard, why he is in the forest, or why he knows how to fight, etc.
Zwei from Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ (aka This Anime Has a Long Title) is kidnapped after seeing Ein in action and then gets his memories wiped.
In his quest to appear heroic and awesome, Larg from Tears to Tiara forgets that he is trapped beneath a lot of boulders and can’t get out on his own!
yeah ive noticed that reciprocating them throughout this season and i have to say, i am really QUITE annoyed at all damn gasping and the ndvklsngoWSNGKPnSK:gjmna[
of “who am i? where am i? what am i doing?” i swear the main character of phantom have to have said who am i? where am i? at least 1000 times the first episode, argh it was annoying…episode 2 at least he has it under control. 07-ghost, all the gasping and head clutching from past memories forcing their way into his cerebellum was not very helpful in getting me to watch this series. last time i checked amnesia patients dont get debilatating headaches that make you oblivious to wtf is going on around you, same with guin, wtf? he suffers from MASSIVE migraines everytime he kills somebody? apparently this doesnt apply to dead people as the headaches did not occur when the ghoul killing commenced.
the ghost i can understand, maybe she doesnt remember anything from before she died because they believed memories are stored in the brain and not the soul and with basquash, hell i probably dont even remember some toddler chick i was friends with as a kid….and to quote him best “how was i supposed to know it was you with those massive breasts you have?”…i died laughing at that part. just my 2 cents

lol at the parallel. Convenient memory loss as a plot device has to be one of my least favorite setups. Eden is the rare gem good enough to get away with it.
