Your loss.
I found this random torrent named “Butt Attack Punisher Girl Gautaman OVA” on TT the other day and, needless to say, I was interested.
Summary
Now I usually don’t do summaries simply because if you read my posts, you’ve probably already watched the episode I’m blogging about. However, as this anime is so damn obscure, I’m forced to present to you this summary.
So basically, there’s a girl named Mari going to a school for religion. This girl is a devout Christian who meets her Hindu roommate on the first day.
Good so far?
Then, an organization called “Black Buddha” comes and snatches said roommate and they get close to molesting her when Saki suddenly receives help from a perverted Buddha after praying to God, donning the mighty sumo belt (not really – it’s actually a fundoshi, but I don’t think it matters) of Gautaman and fighting off the Black Buddha Evil Newspaper Guy with her “tightening = more power” belt that will kill her if it comes off.
And more mayhem ensues (sumo Darth Vader with tons of BO and a molesting samurai both appear), and the story finishes on somewhat of a cliffhanger (another OVA – the sequel – was made five months after the first one was made in May of 1994).
Oh, and Anime Classic is also subbing the aforementioned sequel.
Well, the retro art sucks.
I almost always hate retro art, so I’m biased to the extreme.
Dr. Evil here looks like some strange hippie, what with that mullet and all.
No, no, no. I’m pretty sure that when you’re talking about what’s worse, you’re referring to the steady stream of cherry blossom petals tears gushing from your eyes.
^ I believe this is a better rendition of the scene.
And same with this anime.
On the surface, it’s one big pile of random stupidity.
If you take a deeper look, there’s even more stupidity to be found.
Simply a natural progression…
And thus the witch hunt for Gautaman begins!
But really, this is more than just slapstick humor.
We get parody after parody after reference after reference. Many of the allusions are obviously outdated (it’s probably like digging up Lucky Star in 2030, except Lucky Star is so much more popular), but the parodies are definitely still pertinent.
Evil characters always have to look ugly!
Ah, the “pinned against the wall” scene… except with newspapers!
I love this shot.
This really makes fun of the “evil base must look really weird” idea by contrasting the normal buildings with the Black Buddha HQ.
Needless to say, we have one of the most awesome parodies of the mahou shoujo (magical girl) genre ever made.
I’d say that this beats out even Dai Mahou Touge in crushing mahou shoujo stereotypes.
Must Gods always be godlike?
This anime says no. This parodies the traditional “omnipotent + omniscient being” archetype that we see so often in anime.
Not only this, but this anime also makes fun of religions equally. Buddha is a pervert and Shiva and Jesus won’t even show their faces.
Ah, a parody of the “pickup line.”
Not only is demonic newspaper man a bad guy and not actually trying to get together with Mari, but the pickup line in question is so stupid and Mari’s response is so absurd that I couldn’t stop laughing.
You know when the main character of an anime always has that “Unforgivable…!” (yurusenai! – I think that’s how it is in romanji) line?
Like, when the magical girl turns not-so-nice anymore and gets serious? Yeah, that line. This scene is one awesome parody of that. Mari choking her best friend while saying this standard anime line just doesn’t carry the same weight, y’know?
And finally, as seen above, this scene is the Cinderella parody.
Whoever can fit her butt perfectly into this butt print wins the beauty contest.
Whoever can fit her foot perfectly into the glass slipper wins the prince’s hand.
Definitely more than a coincidence there.
And there’s so much more.
This is pretty much the Spaceballs of anime in terms of amounts of sheer stupidity and parodies, and I’d say that this is the best ecchi comedy (albeit a retro ecchi comedy) that I’ve ever seen.
I’m looking forward to Anime Classic’s release of the second OVA!
Old animu is old.
New torrent is new!
Oh my… You find some crazy anime 😛
Religious discourse! lol
When I saw the wacky title, I just knew that I had to watch it! 😉
This has to be hentai. If it isn’t, I don’t know what hentai is then.
BY THE WAY, I’d tap that (female) ass.
If this is hentai, then it’s some weird sumo belt fetish hentai! D:
Wait, which one, again?
god this was fucking terrible.
…la maisons en petite cube was awesome though. loved it.
Lol. Well, the majority of those who’ve watched this agree with you! (MAL score of ~5.3?)
La Maison en Petits Cubes was one awesome journey, heheh.
[…] to laugh. There’s no rhyme or reason to this kind of comedy: it’s like Bo-bobo or Butt Attack Girl: nothing makes sense, and you’re laughing because it’s stupid and would never really […]
Hold on a second………am I going to watch this? Yea.
Haha, happy animeing!
This anime is the epitome of “either you like it, or you don’t.”
