Beck is a lot better than K-ON!

Who the hell do you think we are?!

I’ve been watching Beck, and it’s light years better than K-ON!.

Let’s get reasonable here.
Can any girl in K-ON! really compare with Maho?

Makoto’s an asshole?  Look at this faggot!

Chiba is awesome.

Is there anything as subtle as a half-second shot of a gun in Goldy’s pants (NO INNUENDO HERE, JESUS CHRIST) to imply the possibility of danger in K-ON, or is the show just a bunch of OBVIOUS MOE APPEAL, OBVIOUS FANSERVICE, reused plot, et cetera?

Sure, K-ON! is a slice-of-life school life comedy while Beck is a slice-of-life (one of the best SOC ever, IMO) sports-style anime, but the difference in awesome is much more than enormous.  Plus there ain’t no Hyoudou in the K-ON! light music club!

In other news, Beck is quite possibly the most epic thing I’ve ever seen.  That’s counting Gurren Lagann.  The engrish and the horrible documentary can be excused in the face of this epicness.  …the only regret I have after watching this is that I didn’t watch it earlier.

In what way Beck is any good at all ? Probably the most boring crap i’ve ever tried to watch.

  2. FlameStrike says:

Well duh. There’s no need to compare your apples and oranges. Even if the apple is of SUPERIOR quality there are still going to be people who love their oranges.

My fellow blogger loves Beck! She says it’s a lot better than K-ON. But from the looks of it, both of these anime are trying to appeal to different types of audience. Granted, I haven’t watched Beck but I’m pretty sure I’ll like it more than K-ON. Still, I’ll like to say that they shouldn’t be compared because they’re not aiming at the same type of anime viewers…

  4. z4brac says:

I agree with Minnie. Both are set for different audiences.

blah, blasphemy. you just dont know how to enjoy a good moe-tastic anime that kyoani has so graciously given us. i would take K-ON! over beck any day of the week regardless.

I had the chance watching Beck in my college years and its still is the best musical-inspired anime in my list (yea, I got a bunch of list y’know). Well, that was before the moe fandom came to light anyway. But Beck basically had that more serious tone, drama and heavy music compared to K-on (hey, its from a 4-koma comic, can anything get any serious from that?). So far, K-on had failed me, even after 5 episode, I dont heard shit of ’em playing together properly as a band

That’s another show I’ve been meaning to watch, but just never got around to. It looks pretty good. Maybe when I’m done with the 500 shows I’m currently watching I’ll pick it up.

  8. Michael Flux says:

Hmm.. interesting, never even hear of this :p Will have to give it a try!

  9. Roy Mustang says:

Like Cross Game, I’m impressed that you were able to get through the first episode.

I hate ugly anime characters. I even had a hard time getting through terrific moe-tastic shows like Kannagi because they sprinkled awful ugly characters in the background sometimes. They even spoke in Ep3. I still have nightmares.

WHAT ARE YOU?!?! A RAPPER OR SINGER “WE ARE THE WORLD”?!?!?! *American laughter*

While I do hate people comparing K-ON! to Beck, at least it has a good side effect: More people are watching Beck =3 and its about time too! Its never too late to watch good anime!

  11. Taka says:

ugly= semi-realistic? At least when it comes to BECK. I was hoping K-On would end up more like BECK now I’ve pretty much given up that hope.

BECK is so underwatched it’s not even funny.

@ all (and thus my inner lazy slob reveals itself!): Sure, it might not fair to compare Beck with K-ON! (sports-ish vs. comedy?), but if I’m going on a strict 10 point scale, I’d give Beck a 9 and K-ON! a 7, based solely on enjoyment (because come on, isn’t that what really matters?).

Oh, and yeah, Beck certainly is underwatched. It’s really good, though (#52 on MAL) – check it out, you guys who’ve yet to watch it!

Also, FlameStrike wins the epic comment award.

thanks for putting up this post. I was watching Beck awhile ago, but put it on hiatus so thank you cause you reminded me i need to finish it. I do believe if your more inclined for a realistic music series Beck is in no doubt the choice. Obviously K-ON is riding the ship of its fandom of prerequisite moe series and also has it goods as well.

    • fangzhao says:

Haha, I don’t know how you managed to put it on hold!

I was hooked after five minutes, and managed to squeeze out five or so episodes a day with intense school pressure going on! D:

And yeah, K-ON! definitely goes for a different appeal/audience… though I’d still take Beck over it any day.
