"...you'll never escape bad art!"
FAIL-O-METER
This episode weighs in at a hefty 10 tons.
You know, I expected more from this series.
Instead, I got some “Asread quality” and an Akikan! remake in terms of art.
“If you don’t draw some quality art, I’m cutting your salary!”
Indeed.
Let’s take a closer look at it.
There are three major things wrong with this screenshot:
- The hands
- The boots
- The dress
The hands look like shit.
What are those things?
If people had these kinds of hands in real life, I’d be more than scared.
Gilbert’s hand looks like a weapon.
If you didn’t notice this, Oz is standing on one stair, not two.
His body is bent over as if he were standing on two stairs of different heights, though (with that kind of a pose, it’s impossible to attribute this failure to “the farther leg seems shorter.”
Actually, I sortakinda lied. His left foot is standing on the part between the two stairs (which is supposed to be vertical):
And then we come to the most egregious error in this shot: the loli’s dress and the loli in general.
First off, what happened to her other foot?
As you can clearly see, she’s standing on a single foot!
Next, it appears as if half her dress is gone.
Behind Gilbert = okay. But where’d the other half go? Bah.
Sweet Jesus, save me from this monstrosity!
…well, at least we know why Gilbert’s feeling so down!
Okay, first, let me give some background information on this scene:
- Oz is supposed to be looking down at the watch, not the gravestone.
- Gilbert is talking to Oz, so he should be looking at Oz.
So we have here not one, but two instances of “where the hell is that guy looking?”

Close up, everything looks fine... but far away... *shudder*
Now don’t get me wrong. I love the art style of Pandora Hearts (very bold shading, vivid colors, nice character design), but the art quality is something out of this world.
As for the story, yay.
I’m not too good at praising anime, so I’ll keep it brief: the story is good because it’s good. The scene with the scary woman was pretty… scary (well, more “creepy” than “scary,” but I don’t think the discrepancy there really matters).

Let me display my pointy nose for you!
i didnt like this anime much at all, i agree with you that scene with the woman was pretty creepy but i cant watch this i dont think and yes the art is terrible…Basquash good, this fail
I’m going to keep watching this one.
Even though it has some pretty bad moments artistically, I found the story to be really interesting and (almost) worth the time sitting through the horrific art.
Oh gosh why did I lol at your post? XD
Wow I didn’t notice the QUALITY in this anime. Good eye.
My eyes are trained to look specifically for failure!
Though that might not always be good…
ok so after rewatching it this time all the way through im now hooked, the fact that this feels like a japanese twist on american mcgee’s alice thrills me. i cant wait to see the cheshire cat and alice seems less like alice and more like the murderous mad hatter. my question is whos going to voice the queen of hearts?
Hahah, yeah, this felt like Alice in Wonderland for a bit. The freaky part is what hooked me, and I want to see more of that.
