{"id":878,"date":"2009-04-06T10:38:11","date_gmt":"2009-04-06T17:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mikoto.wordpress.com\/?p=878"},"modified":"2009-04-06T10:38:11","modified_gmt":"2009-04-06T17:38:11","slug":"spring-2009-anime-first-impressions-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flomu.net\/blog\/2009\/04\/spring-2009-anime-first-impressions-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring 2009 Anime First Impressions: Part One"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_879\" style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-879\" class=\"size-full wp-image-879\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090403175002.jpg?resize=450%2C338\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-879\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pinch me, &#39;cause I think I&#39;m dreaming.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Part One.5 of my Spring 2009 First Impressions (Part one was technically <em><a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/02\/queens-blade-wat\/\" target=\"_blank\">Queen&#8217;s Blade<\/a><\/em>&#8230;): <em>K-ON!<\/em>, <em>Slap Up Party -Arad Senki-<\/em>, <em>Shangri-la<\/em>, <em>Natsu no Arashi<\/em>, and <em>Hayate no Gotoku!!<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<h1>K-ON!<\/h1>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-993\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090403175023.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A slice-of-life comedy from KyoAni featuring a moeblob, a Miyuki in a costume, a maybe-tsundere, and a spaz.<\/p>\n<p>It feels like a cross between <em>Kannagi <\/em>and <em>Lucky Star<\/em>, featuring the &#8220;club will be shut down unless&#8230;&#8221; plotline of anime like <em>CLANNAD<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This could just be the next great slice-of-life comedy, the one I&#8217;ve been waiting for since <em>Kannagi<\/em> ended.<\/p>\n<p>Yui is awesome.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Epic win<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h1>Slap Up Party -Arad Senki-<\/h1>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-994\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090404233836.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An action\/adventure-comedy by GONZO, one of the only four it will be producing this year.<\/p>\n<p>This was definitely unexpected. \u00a0I had wanted a good, solid comedy, and I got some random battle crap for the first seven minutes?<\/p>\n<p>However, I stuck to my word that I&#8217;d watch the first episode of each series, and I was thankfully not disappointed. \u00a0This feels like it&#8217;s going to be an <a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/05\/vidya-gaemz\/\" target=\"_blank\">RPG-like anime<\/a> in which random characters (including <a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090404232249.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">this looks-like-a-man woman<\/a>) join Baron&#8217;s party, and I, for one, am not complaining.<\/p>\n<p>I can only hope that this series will keep up the balance of the RPG-style party vs. enemies action\/adventure and great humor that was presented in this first episode.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Win<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h1>Shangri-la<\/h1>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-996\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090405233950.jpg?resize=500%2C283\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"283\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The second of the four 2009 GONZO anime, and it looks like it&#8217;s going to become an epic sci-fi action anime.<\/p>\n<p>This was the anime I was looking forward to, the one that I knew I had to watch from the first time I saw <a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/11.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">this picture<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So basically: incredibly short skirts, two creepy, though funny, trannies, an 18-year-old main character loli, a royal loli with different colored eyes, and a bear-hugging loli playing the markets. \u00a0Add to that some <a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090405233747.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">awesome art<\/a> (though it&#8217;s in low definition), and you&#8217;ve got yourself a winner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Epic win<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h1>Natsu no Arashi!<\/h1>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1001\" title=\"snapshot200904060013412\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot200904060013412.jpg?resize=500%2C277\" alt=\"snapshot200904060013412\" width=\"500\" height=\"277\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A SHAFT slice-of-life comedy (maybe comedic romance&#8230; though not likely).<\/p>\n<p>Well, um&#8230; The character design here certainly is &#8230;a sight to behold (<em>not <\/em>in a good sense). \u00a0A nose that looks like a belly button and noses that look like <a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090401022104.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Steiner&#8217;s nose<\/a> minus the bold tags??<\/p>\n<p>However, seeing as the character design is consistent throughout the episode, I can at least rest assured that this won&#8217;t pull off an <em>Akikan!<\/em>esque &#8220;I just lost a nose!&#8221; or worse&#8230; well, at least, I hope it won&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>The time-traveling aspect of the show, coupled with the idea that you&#8217;ll cease to exist if you meet yourself, is a great platform to build a comedy on.<\/p>\n<p>This first episode seems like a &#8220;hook&#8221; into the show without explaining the origins of the time-traveling, sailor fuku girls&#8230; which isn&#8217;t necessarily bad, and I&#8217;m actually not looking forward to an explanation (the comedy present in this episode seems good enough).<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and awesome <em><a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090406000458.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Sayonara, Zetsubou Sensei<\/a><\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090406000458.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"> reference\/parody<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Win<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h1>Hayate no Gotoku!!<\/h1>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1003\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090403231519.jpg?resize=500%2C277\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"277\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The second season of one of the greatest comedies ever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Awesome awesome awesome!!1<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0&#8230;is what I want to say.<\/p>\n<p>The humor of the first season is definitely present in this episode&#8230; but the art style and the <a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090403230517.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">art quality<\/a> are too different and bad (respectively) to ignore.<\/p>\n<p>However, as with <em>Natsu no Arashi!<\/em>, I&#8217;m sure that I&#8217;ll get used to the art in time.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Hinagiku ED = awesome.<br \/>\nJust goes to show who&#8217;s the real main heroine of this anime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Win<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h1>Conclusion<\/h1>\n<p>So so far (that ain&#8217;t a typo), the things I&#8217;ll most likely be bashing are Natsu no Arashi, Hayate S2, and Slap Up Party, though I doubt I can keep up episodic bashes for any of those three. \u00a0Queen&#8217;s Blade &#8211;
