{"id":4612,"date":"2010-06-29T14:55:47","date_gmt":"2010-06-29T21:55:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mikoto.wordpress.com\/?p=4612"},"modified":"2010-06-29T14:55:47","modified_gmt":"2010-06-29T21:55:47","slug":"4612","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flomu.net\/blog\/2010\/06\/4612\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/ending1.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4615\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/ending1.png?resize=460%2C451\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"451\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are five ways an anime can end: Ugh Bang, Ugh Fizzle, Planetes Bang, Planetes Fizzle, and no ending. \u00a0(Note: In this context, Planetes means &#8220;good&#8221; because Planetes had the best ending ever.)<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;d think that the Ugh Bang and Planetes Fizzle types are very rare, but that certainly wasn&#8217;t the case this season.<\/p>\n<p>The finale of\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Angel Beats<\/span><\/strong> was reminiscent of the last episode of Air. \u00a0Air finished its mediocre run with a final episode that was confusing, stupid, and confusingly stupidly tear-jerking. \u00a0I had no idea what I was feeling sad about because it simply did not make sense. \u00a0Angel Beats made a bit more sense, but any idiot could tell that P.A.Works was reaching real, real far for the drama. \u00a0Trashing Kanade&#8217;s entire character, giving Otonashi some lame romance crap (Hinata was a hell of a lot cooler), and inserting some last-minute, out-of-place comic relief all for some fake tears on the audience&#8217;s part? \u00a0Give me a break. \u00a0This may have been a hell of a finale, but it was a <em>hell<\/em> of a finale.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, that&#8217;s not to say that the entire series was good. \u00a0No, no, no. \u00a0the entire series sucked. \u00a0In a nutshell, it was too many characters, too little time, and too much shit humor.<\/p>\n<p>On the other side of the scale lies <span style=\"color:#339966;\"><strong>Arakawa Under the Bridge<\/strong><\/span>, a masterpiece of a show. \u00a0Yes, the last episode may have been a gag-filled episode, but hey, that&#8217;s good enough for a gag-filled series. \u00a0I&#8217;m still not sure what Arakawa has been trying to say (as in, the themes). \u00a0Shinbo and Nakamura (original creator, who&#8217;s actually female. \u00a0How cool is that?) may not be trying to say anything in particular, but something in the show resonates deeply with me.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to shows I love, it&#8217;s really hard to write anything meaningful, so I&#8217;ll leave it at that. \u00a0Arakawa for Best Anime of 2010~<\/p>\n<p>When <strong><span style=\"color:#fda201;\">Durarara!!<\/span><\/strong> first aired, I criticized it for being nothing close to Baccano!. \u00a0And with this severely disappointing finale, I stand by that. \u00a0Durarara!! had too many characters for its own good. \u00a0By the end, it became impossible to fit them all in and claim that they were all more or less important. \u00a0That traffic cop showed up twice, Simon didn&#8217;t do anything, and in the end all we got was some stupid fistfight sparked by a minor character whose most distinguishing trait is that he sits in the passenger seat of a van. \u00a0I sat in a passenger seat of a pickup before. \u00a0How come I&#8217;m not important? \u00a0Does it have to be a van? \u00a0I wonder if the color of the van matters&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">FMA:Brotherhood<\/span><\/strong> was all HELL YEAH, AWESOME material until episode 63. \u00a0True, it is hard to justify any win over &#8220;God&#8221; other than by some sappy power of ______ (friendship, spirit, soul, humanity, etc.), but I&#8217;d&#8217;ve liked to see a real battle with Father. \u00a0Where&#8217;s the total GAR-osity of episodes 50-60? \u00a0give that back! \u00a0I want my action back!<\/p>\n<p>Arakawa for Best Anime of 2010~<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are five ways an anime can end: Ugh Bang, Ugh Fizzle, Planetes Bang, Planetes Fizzle, and no ending. \u00a0(Note: In this context, Planetes means &#8220;good&#8221; because Planetes had the best ending ever.)
