{"id":2593,"date":"2009-05-29T21:54:26","date_gmt":"2009-05-30T04:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mikoto.wordpress.com\/?p=2593"},"modified":"2009-05-29T21:54:26","modified_gmt":"2009-05-30T04:54:26","slug":"may-2009-anime-in-a-nutshell-or-three","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flomu.net\/blog\/2009\/05\/may-2009-anime-in-a-nutshell-or-three\/","title":{"rendered":"May 2009 Anime in a nutshell or three"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/snapshot200905220002031.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2595\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/snapshot200905220002031.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the spirit of many anibloggers, I present to you a new feature of this blog: monthly lists and evaluations of the junk I&#8217;ve been watching, as well as general monthly information!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/snapshot20090423160022.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2610\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/snapshot20090423160022.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Top three (airing) anime<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Cross Game<\/strong><br \/>\nThis has got to be the most underrated anime this season. \u00a0A few people watch it, but many more people don&#8217;t simply because of the art style. \u00a0Usually for this kind of anime (sports genre), I&#8217;d hold back on a score until I see the first &#8220;match,&#8221; but Cross Game has proved to be an outstanding blend of slice-of-life and sports elements in a genre that&#8217;s mostly defined by fast-paced anime that go from one match to the next with an almost complete focus on these &#8220;matches&#8221; and none on the stuff in-between.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Electromagnetic Girlfriend<\/strong><br \/>\nWow. \u00a0Total insanity right there. \u00a0I had no idea that this was going to turn out a <em>Higurashi<\/em>-esque horror anime, and I had an equal lack of expectations out of this three-episode OVA. \u00a0A real shocker, this one. \u00a0My only complaint would be the high levels of romantic elements &#8211; though they are effective in developing the story in a unique way, I&#8217;d rather see more yandere than a yantsunderemix.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eve no Jikan<\/strong><br \/>\nNo surprises here. \u00a0Episode four continued the absolutely excellent art, animation, plotline, etc. that defined the previous three episodes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div id=\"attachment_2611\" style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/snapshot20090522225439.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2611\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2611\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/snapshot20090522225439.jpg?resize=450%2C338\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2611\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&quot;...for being an average anime.&quot;<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Random thoughts on some other airing anime<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hatsukoi Limited<\/strong> is epic. \u00a0It probably would&#8217;ve made the list up there had it not been for the boob episode. \u00a0OBVIOUSLY, if you have big breasts, you should ditch your Olympic-level swimming skills! \u00a0Though teenage girls do have that problem of being too self-conscious, I doubt that it&#8217;d be at this level.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>K-ON!<\/strong> is getting slightly better. \u00a0Azusa makes things better. \u00a0I am not a lolicon.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Basquash!<\/strong> owns. \u00a0Problem is, I <em>still<\/em>\u00a0don&#8217;t know what the rules are for this mecha basketball game. \u00a0Is the goal to destroy your opponents, to make it in a randomly placed hoop, or to score more points than the other team in a given amount of time? \u00a0It&#8217;s totally unclear what Mr. Destroy-is-getting-old, Dan, and Parasite girl are actually trying to do.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Is <strong>Hayate no Gotoku!!<\/strong>\u00a0a second season? \u00a0Or is it a remake? \u00a0The anime makes references back to Hayate no Gotoku!, but it also redos some things (like Hinagiku and Ayumu meeting), so I&#8217;m confused. \u00a0Not keikaku doori?<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Higashi no Eden<\/strong> is failing. \u00a0A confusing and misguided episode seven foreshadows a crappy ending IMO. \u00a0I don&#8217;t even know the genre after eight episodes, come to think of it&#8230;<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chrome Shelled Regios<\/strong> sucks. \u00a0I want some action from an action anime, for crying out loud!<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kurokami<\/strong> has not been subbed in two weeks. \u00a0I guess AoT finally realized that it sucks too much to be subbed.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Haruhi S2<\/strong> was a bummer. \u00a0I&#8217;d&#8217;ve liked some good art\/animation, or at least something vaguely consistent with S1, but KyoAni just <em>had<\/em> to revert to K-ON! moemoeblobfail mode.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei<\/strong> is getting better. \u00a0It ain&#8217;t going to be anywhere close to the first two seasons, though.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Slap Up Party<\/strong> decided to walk down the path of action rather than parody in episode seven. \u00a0What a terrible mistake.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pandora Hearts<\/strong> is good, but not as good as many are making it out to be. \u00a0The creepy scenes certainly are creepy, but some elements are just downright annoying. \u00a0Pointing the gun at yourself and believing in the Raven who believes in you, Oz? \u00a0Come on. \u00a0The power of friendship (or in this case, servitude) rules all once again!<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Saki<\/strong> had a filler episode. \u00a0Lol.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>FMA: Brotherhood<\/strong> isn&#8217;t that good. \u00a0I don&#8217;t know how good FMA was, but I don&#8217;t think that this deserves half the hype it&#8217;s getting. \u00a0The premise is incredible, but the random fights just chop up the plot into tiny pieces that are all the same size and shape, making for some pretty predictable episodes.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Valkyria Chronicles<\/strong> is ordinary. \u00a0I thought that it&#8217;d have to be something interesting, seeing as how it got its own board on AnimeSuki, but it&#8217;s pretty average.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;ve heard good things about the recent episodes of <strong>Sora Kake Girl<\/strong>. \u00a0I&#8217;ve been putting it on hold atm due to my need to watch older anime (see below).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/snapshot20090502221750.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2613\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/snapshot20090502221750.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Non-airing anime that I&#8217;ve been watching<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Maria\u2020Holic<\/strong>\u00a0is very interesting. \u00a0There are some absolutely hilarious parts, and some downright boring parts. \u00a0Expanded alaria.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Beck<\/strong>\u00a0was epic. \u00a0If there were any anime able to compete with Gurren Lagann in terms of sheer epicness, Beck would be it. \u00a0Finest anime of the sports genre that I&#8217;ve ever seen.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Blood+<\/strong> wasn&#8217;t that good. \u00a0Saya was too weak, and the ending was too touching (well, intended to be*) for an action anime.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Minami-ke: Okawari<\/strong> is certainly surprising. \u00a0I knew that the artwork was bad, but does the humor have to be equally bad?
