So after watching Tayutama<\/em> 03 (which, by the way, continued the tradition of QUALITY art), I realized that in every other anime with some kind of supernatural girl, there’s the “I’m a monster” line.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Is this line some kind of variant on the even more stereotypical “A person like you dating a person like me” line? \u00a0It carries the same meaning… something along the lines of “LOOK AT MY LOW SELF-ESTEEM” or “LOOK, THIS IS DRAMA”<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I understand why this line could be useful. \u00a0It could be used as a twisted form of pathos to get random viewers to be more attracted to said monster.<\/p>\n

Still, I don’t understand why some characters (LIKE MONSTERGIRL FROM INDEX<\/em>) say it. \u00a0It’s not like members of the audience are going to feel weak in their knees and swoon over the sight of Hyouka after she says “a monster like me.” \u00a0She remains unfavorited on MAL<\/a>\u00a0(and that’s saying something, seeing as how sombody has Budoko<\/a> on their favorites).<\/p>\n

Plus who really cares about Melon if she thinks she ain’t good enough for Kakeru… because frankly, she’s not! \u00a0Kakeru is a perverted male lead, and Melon is that badly drawn person who always seems to be on screen for some reason!\u00a0<\/p>\n

This line is really painful when it backfires, I guess. \u00a0If the viewers think that “a monster like _____” really shouldn’t be with _____ and\/or be _____ (i.e. “alive”), then the whole thing falls apart, no? \u00a0Hyoko really shouldn’t be alive if all she does is whine 24\/7 and prompt another Touma-runs-across-3-meter-long-distance-in-half-an-episode scene. \u00a0Melon really should go away. \u00a0Kuro should toughen up. \u00a0Mashiro should get a haircut.<\/p>\n

Now this kind of honesty should replace all this "a monster like me" crap.<\/p><\/div>\n

This post degenerated into a series-bashing post, so I might as well just try and stuff as much crap as I can in here.<\/p>\n
