holy shit, this fails.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">THE EVIDENCE<\/span><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1011 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090406111412.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The loli.<\/p>\n<p>The spazzy loli.<\/p>\n<p>The animal-wearing\u00a0spazzy\u00a0loli.<\/p>\n<p>The pigtailed, animal-wearing\u00a0spazzy\u00a0loli.<\/p>\n<p>The pigtailed, <a href=\"http:\/\/myanimelist.net\/clubs.php?cid=9560\" target=\"_blank\">fang-tan<\/a>, animal-wearing\u00a0spazzy\u00a0loli.<\/p>\n<p>The pigtailed, fang-tan, animal-wearing\u00a0spazzy\u00a0loli voiced by Rie Kugimiya. \u00a0(<em>gomen<\/em>, I just had to put that in here)<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s too ridiculous. \u00a0She&#8217;s too stereotypical. \u00a0She wears a longcat as a belt, is miles shorter than everybody else, eats constantly, has a fang, is constanly making weird facial expressions, and has childish hair. \u00a0She is more of a stereotypical loli than any other anime character I&#8217;ve ever seen before. \u00a0Taking her character seriously is very tough to do, as she&#8217;s basically <strong>the<\/strong> loli archetype.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1012\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090406111758.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1014\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090406111746.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1013\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090406111719.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Basically, if you don&#8217;t know mahjong, you can&#8217;t understand half the episode.<br \/>\nWho the hell cares if Saki can break even every single time if you can&#8217;t understand what that even means (or that plus\/minus zero means breaking even&#8230;)?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">To have this <em>not<\/em> be a parody, either the targeted audience (i.e. Japanese people) all know mahjong (a lot do, but&#8230;), or this is one fail-filled show.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">HOLY SHIT, A 70 MINIPOINT 2 FAN HAND!!11111oneone<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1015 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090406113724.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1009 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090406113747.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Since when has mahjong been srsbsns?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Plus if it&#8217;s going to be this dramatic in the first episode, then I can definitely say that when an actual match comes up (as in, &#8220;nationals&#8221;), I will be cowering in the corner of my room, trying to get away from all the lightning, thunder, cheerleaders, disco ball, and fireworks coming from my screen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Seriously, do we need the electricity? \u00a0The dramatic placing down of the tile is already too flashy, and now you&#8217;ve got biribiri doing your work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">BAH.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1017 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090406113056.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">wat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">You know, when a character flat out explains the rules of the game in a separate section, you know something&#8217;s up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Later, the characters say, &#8220;So basically, the time&#8217;s cut in half.&#8221; \u00a0&#8220;Yeah.&#8221; \u00a0(something along those lines)<br \/>\nEither they are trying desparately to simplify the game in layman&#8217;s terms or they&#8217;re just making fun of one of the biggest problems with game\/sport-based anime: how to connect the game\/sport to the viewers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1023 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot200904061134222.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p>HAH, even the loli realizes that she&#8217;s in a parody!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1020\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090406111944.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">The student <span style=\"text-decoration:line-through;\">council<\/span> congress president has one large <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ahoge\" target=\"_blank\">ahoge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">In fact, there is an entire scene dedicated to her ahoge to draw viewer attention to the fact that she possesses an ahoge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">So why is this scene even here? \u00a0My guess would be that it&#8217;s to &#8230;antistereotype (?) Hisa.<br \/>\nAn ahoge usually represents clumsiness and stupidity, but Hisa doesn&#8217;t seem to be very clumsy at all. \u00a0Rather, she&#8217;s the one who notices that Saki gets three +-0s in a row. \u00a0Obviously, this very fact obviously shows Saki&#8217;s blatantly obvious skill at obviously getting obvious +-0s in an obvious row. \u00a0Obviously, Hisa isn&#8217;t smart. \u00a0Rather, she&#8217;s the smartest of the dumbest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">It&#8217;s pretty hard not to go &#8220;huh?&#8221; if Saki gets three +-0s in a row (I mean, even by chance&#8230; isn&#8217;t that incredibly tough to do&#8230;? \u00a0It&#8217;s like winning the lottery three times in a row [not a good example]). \u00a0Yet nobody questions it or points it out. \u00a0It takes somebody with an ahoge (somebody <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">clumsy<\/span>) to point out that Saki has an unusual skill in breaking even.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">So what does all of this mean? \u00a0Well basically, it means that the other characters are retards. \u00a0They can&#8217;t even tell that Saki is gifted, and they need an &#8220;idiot&#8221; to tell them before they realize it themselves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1024 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090406112355.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">The yuri\/lesbianism in this episode also shows signs of parody.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">What kind of main character falls in love with another girl? \u00a0It&#8217;s so ludicrous that a romance between Saki and Nodoka would only serve to tell the audience, &#8220;Hey, this is really far from reality, because things like this usually don&#8217;t happen to japanese high school freshmen girls!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1027 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot200904061126241.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Yes, I know that GONZO loves its fanservice (just look at <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">Strike Witches<\/span>!), but the fanservice here was in-your-face nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">The &#8216;obligatory fanservice shot&#8217; near the beginning of this post and the screenshot above are just about as obvious &#8220;THIS IS FANSERVICE&#8221; as you&#8217;re going to get, really. \u00a0And what better to reinforce parody aspects than to give us random fanservice shots? \u00a0Basically, my reasoning here is that of <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">Hayate no Gotoku<\/span>, which used Hinagiku fanservice a lot for comedic effect: &#8220;random fanservice diverts viewer attention away from the main storyline, and inserts a degree of randomness into the anime.&#8221; \u00a0This degree of randomness translates somewhat into &#8220;why is this happening in a mahjong-based anime again&#8230;?&#8221; and thus, parody.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">In conclusion,<\/span><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Saki is either a great parody or a crappy, what-the-hell-is-going-on??!? anime.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1025\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090406112248.jpg?resize=500%2C281\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">OVERLY DRAMATIC MUCH?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FAIL-O-METER Incredible. \u00a0Simply incredible.
