Over at <a href=\"http:\/\/ambivalen.wordpress.com\/\">Ambivalence, or is it ambiguity?<\/a>, Valence and co. were <a href=\"http:\/\/ambivalen.wordpress.com\/2011\/05\/29\/this-is-post-300-awards-introduction\/\">celebrating something really trivial and unimportant that I didn&#8217;t care about<\/a>.\u00a0 And in this moment in their insignificant lives, all three of the authors decided to name Madoka Magica as their choice for &#8220;Best Execution.&#8221;\u00a0 I wrote a little bit on Madoka last week, but if you didn&#8217;t care about that long post (I know I didn&#8217;t), here&#8217;s the short version: Madoka Magica doesn&#8217;t deserve best execution.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t even think it deserves any execution.\u00a0 Come to think of it, there weren&#8217;t even any executions in the show.\u00a0 So in my blind rage at this defiant act against all that is just and holy in the aniblogosphere, I decided to make this post.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><strong>Warning: SPOILERRIFIC!<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_37\" style=\"width: 541px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/flomu.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/05\/lmalien_nine_-_01_035c2841-mkv_snapshot_01-32_2011-01-13_21-36-132.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37\" class=\"size-full wp-image-37\" src=\"http:\/\/flomu.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/05\/lmalien_nine_-_01_035c2841-mkv_snapshot_01-32_2011-01-13_21-36-132.jpg?resize=531%2C354\" alt=\"\" width=\"531\" height=\"354\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-37\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yuri: &quot;D-Didn&#039;t we use this picture before?&quot;  Kumi: &quot;Stop crying, baka!&quot;  Kasumi: &quot;I say dum things hurr duuurr&quot;  Borgs: OMNOMNOM<\/p><\/div>\n<p align=\"center\"><em><span style=\"font-size:xx-small;\">Caption to the caption: This was my attempt at being Jesus159159159. \u00a0Sorry.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h3 align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size:large;\">Good Side<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Best Storytelling<\/strong>: I\u2019m pretty sure this means \u201cBest Plot,\u201d so I\u2019ll go with <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Baccano<\/span>.\u00a0 I have my Anime-Planet anime list open on the left side of my monitor and arranged by rating.\u00a0 Out of the 5-star anime, Baccano was the only one that was constantly gripping and interesting, so I guess that means the plot was good.\u00a0 To tell the truth, I don\u2019t remember much about the show, except that it was about immortal mafia mobster gangsters and I thought that was really cool.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Execution<\/strong>: That time Lelouch died.\u00a0 Wait, that was a planned assassination.\u00a0 What about that time Nagisa died?\u00a0 Wait, that was a dream.\u00a0 Well, what about that time Kamin- I guess I can\u2019t go that far. I\u2019ll just settle for <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Light and L<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Underrated Award<\/strong>: <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Alien Nine<\/span>.\u00a0 Episodes Four.\u00a0 Rating Four Point Five.\u00a0 Upside-down Calculator Five-Three-One-Eight-Zero-Zero-Eight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Protagonist<\/strong>: <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Mikoto Misaka<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Antagonist<\/strong>: <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Mikoto Misaka<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In-Your-Face Award<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/flomu.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/1306015247443.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-173\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/flomu.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/1306015247443.png?resize=590%2C331\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"331\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align:center;\"><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><strong>MIKOTO MISAKA<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Heartwarming Award<\/strong>: For some reason, one-and-a-half of the three authors over at that blog I mentioned in this post title but won&#8217;t directly mention again because its title is too long and contains a question mark said that CLANNAD ~After Story~ deserved this award. \u00a0@fkeroge said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">What made give CLANNAD After Story should be pretty obvious. We got the best score in the class for the presentation. So I choose <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">CLANNAD ~After Story~<\/span>\u00a0because you can never have too many tildes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Nerdtastic Award<\/strong>: I take this means &#8220;most weeaboo shit you like that you&#8217;d never want to be seen in public watching.&#8221; \u00a0In that case, it&#8217;s a tie between\u00a0<span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Moetan<\/span> and <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Strike<\/span> <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Witches<\/span>! \u00a0If <a href=\"http:\/\/thecartdriver.com\/rio-rainbow-gate-episode-2\/#comment-10400\">my parents saw me watching this<\/a>, they would probably destroy my computer and my precious anime figures and my dakimakura and my onaholes. \u00a0Okay, so maybe I haven&#8217;t gotten to those last two, but if I watch more weeaboo junk like this and K-ON, I&#8217;d get so weeabooified that people would start <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/ExecutiveOtaku\/status\/79020661942648832\">making Visual Novels<\/a> about me and the life I would be wishing for.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">that paragraph was so meta it&#8217;s crazy<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>LMAO Award<\/strong>: Youngsters these days make these crazy acronyms and whatnot&#8230; Let&#8217;s see here, LMAO should stand for <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">L<\/span> Best Ani<span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">m<\/span>e with an <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">A<\/span>cr<span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">o<\/span>nym Title, right? \u00a0imo this award should go to\u00a0<span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Hetalia: Axis Powers<\/span>. \u00a0iirc that stands for sth like &#8220;worst franchise ever made in history ever.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/flomu.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/limits1.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-195\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/flomu.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/limits1.png?resize=482%2C21\" alt=\"\" width=\"482\" height=\"21\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Abbreviations can make the easiest thing look like total and utter shit. \u00a0Somewhere out there, there is a class that teaches math 100% symbolically. \u00a0I feel for you, confused students in that class somewhere out there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Critique of the Norm Award<\/strong>: Most people like K-ON!. \u00a0Most people are normal. \u00a0Therefore K-ON! is normal. \u00a0K-ON! is also bad. \u00a0Therefore bad is normal. \u00a0By <em>simple logic<\/em>, I can assume that &#8216;critique of the norm&#8217; means &#8216;something actually worth watching.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">In that case, <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Dennou Coil<\/span> and <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Baccano<\/span>. \u00a0I tend to rate things based on two things: my opinion, and my opinion. \u00a0The difference between opinion 1 and opinion 2 is pretty obvious. \u00a0Anybody with half a brain would be able to tell that opinion 1 is whether I myself like the show and that opinion 2 is whether I believe others would like the show. \u00a0I like Eureka Seven and Seto no Hanayome more than Dennou Coil and Baccano, but I believe that these two anime are shows that would appeal to pretty much everyone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/flomu.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/907c1cece7432e0ff2744aaff2ae142f1.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-196\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/flomu.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/907c1cece7432e0ff2744aaff2ae142f1.jpg?resize=590%2C442\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"442\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Biggest Surprise Award<\/strong>: I was really shocked when I found out that Kyubey was an alien from space and that Homura was a time-traveler who saw Madoka die so many times and that Madoka wished for witches to all disappear! \u00a0I was similarly surprised when Sayaka turned into a witch and Kyouko died trying to kill her. \u00a0I was also shocked that Mami died at the end of the third episode!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">In retrospect, I think I wouldn&#8217;t have enjoyed <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Madoka Magica<\/span> ONE BIT if somebody had told me all of this beforehand. \u00a0I&#8217;m so glad nobody <em>spoiled<\/em> the entire plotline for me!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Eff Ishihara Award<\/strong>: I had to google &#8220;ishihara.&#8221; \u00a0I don&#8217;t really care about the ban or whatever because only nerds and weeaboos and loser otakus watch anime, you stupid lame virgins. \u00a0Why don&#8217;t you go find a girlfriend, you antisocial noob?\/<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Best Sequel Award<\/strong>: <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">To Aru Kagaku no Railgun!<\/span> was a magificent sequel. \u00a0J.C. Staff did a decent job with the first season, but it was a good idea to hand the project over to a joint team of Kyoto Animation, Gainax, and SHAFT. \u00a0One of the reasons I didn&#8217;t like season one that much was Kuroko&#8217;s voice. \u00a0I know they were going for a semi-annoying and bold character, but it got on my nerves&#8230; \u00a0In the end, I think Norio Wakamoto was really the better choice for voicing Kuroko, Saten, and Uiharu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">I liked Eureka and Renton&#8217;s cameo in episode 15, as well as Misaki and Satou&#8217;s appearance in episode 28. \u00a0Though these characters are from different series, their introductions seemed natural. \u00a0The episodes they took up weren&#8217;t filler episodes, but the plot moved along seamlessly. \u00a0Also, I believe these character tie-ins indicate that Bones and Gonzo might work on the third season of Railgun.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Speaking of the third season, I can&#8217;t wait for it! \u00a0It&#8217;s coming out next Spring, so you better all watch it!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Squidtastic Award<\/strong>: Talk about vague award titles. \u00a0Seriously guys, what were you thinking?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Cruelty and Blood Award<\/strong>: I&#8217;m going to go for a really predictable choice here &#8211; I&#8217;m sure everybody has heard of it. \u00a0The anime I&#8217;m thinking of stars a girl (I&#8217;ll just call her Makoto Itou) in a relationship with a boy (Kotonoha Katsura). \u00a0Later in the series, a childhood friend appears (Sekai Saionji). \u00a0Sekai goes mad and kills Makoto. \u00a0Katsura discovers Makoto&#8217;s body and confronts Sekai on the school rooftop. \u00a0Katsura takes out the saw that Sekai used to kill Makoto, and uses it to kill Sekai! \u00a0Then Katsura takes out Makoto&#8217;s severed head and cuddles with it on a boat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">That&#8217;s right, folks &#8211; it&#8217;s <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Kare Kano<\/span>! \u00a0It was hard to sit through the first twenty-five episodes, but I&#8217;m glad I finally got to the cruel, bloody, gory ending! \u00a0It was surprising enough when all of the minor characters died when terrorists attacked the school, but the part where Tonami got stabbed in his right eye, shot in the stomach, and beat up by a gang of thugs really took the cake. \u00a0I was especially disturbed when Yukino broke the fourth wall and got the director of the anime to fire the seiyuu who voiced Tsubasa Shibahime (Haruko of FLCL) and Rika Sena (Nia of TTGL). \u00a0It&#8217;s astounding how bad these seiyuu were before they were actually trained and tried to sound like women instead of a bunch of drunk hobos pissing into bushes. \u00a0The last shot of Arima was especially interesting. \u00a0After all that gore, I expected at least one character not to die a grisly death, but I guess I was wrong!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/danbooru.donmai.us\/post\/show\/697940\/angel_beats-death_note-hug-just_as_planned-long_ha\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-198\" src=\"http:\/\/flomu.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/ddba5cf932fbd439b3b837ff68d6ddb01.png?resize=590%2C579\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"579\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Best Ending Award<\/strong>: I really liked the <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Angel Beats<\/span> ending. \u00a0It displayed the heartbreaking profoundness of life. \u00a0Orange haired dude passed on the gift of life to Kanade, while Kanade has been watching over Otonashi Orange Hair for the entire series. \u00a0I bawled my tear ducts dry as that orange haired guy expressed his love for Kanade as she was disappearing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Some idiots in the aniblogosphere were complaining about how it didn&#8217;t make any sense, blah blah blah. \u00a0You poor souls just don&#8217;t get it, do you? \u00a0It&#8217;s not about making sense or about carrying anything close to &#8220;meaning.&#8221; \u00a0Angel Beats is above petty nonsense like that. \u00a0It&#8217;s about the heart, where the soul is. \u00a0If you don&#8217;t have the heart to feel the profound nature of this incredible masterpiece of an ending to this seminal work of art that will be remembered and praised for hundreds of generations, you should be ashamed of yourself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Why care if the first twelve and a half episodes are plagued with terrible characters, bear no semblance of plot, and are devoid of any meaning that could prevent this show from being shown to patients in a mental facility?
