{"id":1344,"date":"2009-04-10T23:49:00","date_gmt":"2009-04-11T06:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mikoto.wordpress.com\/?p=1344"},"modified":"2009-04-10T23:49:00","modified_gmt":"2009-04-11T06:49:00","slug":"hayate-no-gotoku-02-inconsistent-much","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/flomu.net\/blog\/2009\/04\/hayate-no-gotoku-02-inconsistent-much\/","title":{"rendered":"Hayate no Gotoku!! 02: Inconsistent much?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1345\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090410223019.jpg?resize=500%2C277\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"277\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">FAIL-O-METER<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nFail here is a bit hidden. \u00a0The fail in this episode is like the chimpanzee in the closet. \u00a0It&#8217;s not as obvious as the elephant in the room, but it&#8217;s still there if you take the time to open the closet door.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>First, I&#8217;ll start with the obvious fail: <strong>the art<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1346\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090410225211.jpg?resize=500%2C277\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"277\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Katsura-sensei is supposed to be an alcoholic teacher who fails at life, not some weird loli-looking new character with the mole out of view (usually, it&#8217;s right on her forehead where it&#8217;s visible to all).<\/p>\n<p>Her eyes have gotten enormous, and she&#8217;s sporting a half-Kanamouth&#8230;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1348\" style=\"width: 267px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1348\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1348 \" title=\"SHE IS BOSS!\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/kana.png?resize=257%2C209\" alt=\"\" width=\"257\" height=\"209\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1348\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Kanamouth<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Honestly, I like Shana and the like&#8230; but Katsuraloli = a major <strong>DO NOT WANT<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090410224446.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1347\" title=\"Click to see a bigger picture.\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090410224446.jpg?resize=500%2C277\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"277\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nagi: Okay. \u00a0Standard HnG art (or at least HnG2 art).<\/p>\n<p>Ayumu (Nishizawa): &#8230;pretty bad. \u00a0The mouth and the eyes are kind of off&#8230; \u00a0Still, it&#8217;s tolerable.<\/p>\n<p>Maria: Oh God&#8230; WHY?!?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Next (YES, I&#8217;m not only complaining about the art this time!), we have <strong>Klaus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1350\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090410222548.jpg?resize=500%2C277\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"277\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I know he&#8217;s stupid, but he&#8217;s not <em>this<\/em> stupid.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s obvious who&#8217;s in charge here: Nagi. \u00a0Even though Klaus wants to get rid of Hayate, his not having thought about the possibility of being fired is quite a shock. \u00a0After the events of season one in which Klaus went into deep depression over his failure as a butler, you&#8217;d think he would&#8217;ve realized his place in the Sanzenin household: <span style=\"text-decoration:line-through;\">to iron\u00a0newspapers<\/span>\u00a0a servant\/butler of Nagi.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s quite absurd to say that Klaus, in his quest to rid the place of Hayate, never once thought about being fired. \u00a0He was almost fired last season, so he should&#8217;ve wisened (?) up!<\/p>\n<p>Jumping out of character much?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And speaking of jumping out of character, we have <strong>Nagi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1351\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090410224812.jpg?resize=500%2C277\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"277\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nagi&#8217;s calling Hayate late at night? \u00a0What&#8217;s wrong with that?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I thought Nagi was afraid of the dark? \u00a0How is it possible that Nagi is not in her bed (with Maria\/others) cowering in fear? \u00a0Her phobia for darkness is extreme, and in season one, she got scared even when Maria closed the curtains to a room.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t give me any of that &#8220;moonlight&#8221; crap, either! \u00a0The moon is bright, yes&#8230; but if Nagi was afraid of nighttime in season one, then she should be afraid to stand on the balcony at night in season two as well! \u00a0It&#8217;s all the same moon!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Finally, we have the most radical case of &#8220;jumping out of character&#8221;: <strong>Hayate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1349\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot20090410223140.jpg?resize=500%2C277\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"277\" \/><\/p>\n<p>wat<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Whenever a &#8220;I might get fired&#8221; situation pops up (or in this case, a &#8220;I&#8217;m fired&#8221; situation), Hayate goes into a sudden, comedic shocked\/sad pose, like this:<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1352\" src=\"http:\/\/mikoto.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/snapshot200904032315311.jpg?resize=500%2C277\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"277\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So why, then, does Hayate skip this altogether and jump straight to &#8220;Klaus-san, let&#8217;s go find a new place to work together!&#8221;??<\/p>\n<p>First of all, as mentioned above, he passes over the &#8220;Oh shit&#8221; stage.<\/p>\n<p>Next, though the &#8220;Klaus doesn&#8217;t like me&#8221; idea not popping into Hayate&#8217;s mind can be excused (it&#8217;s happened quite a lot, so&#8230;), the fact that Hayate is so enthusiastic about working is just plain weird.<\/p>\n<p>Season one showed a &#8220;strong master-butler bond that can never be broken&#8221; (something like that), and now we get &#8220;screw Nagi, I need to get a job ASAP to pay off my debt,&#8221; the kind of logic that Hayate started out with at the Sanzenin estate in season one. \u00a0There&#8217;s no hesitation on Hayate&#8217;s part, nothing to show that the &#8220;I&#8217;ll protect you&#8221; butler-master bond is there. \u00a0He ain&#8217;t dedicated to Nagi as a butler, but as a debtor &#8211; an idea that&#8217;s totally out of the character of &#8220;Hayate&#8221; that season one took 52 episodes to build up.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, though, as I mentioned before, it&#8217;s okay that Hayate is ignorant of Klaus&#8217;s hatred of him, it&#8217;s not okay that he&#8217;s suggesting a duo with Klaus. \u00a0Since when did Hayate feel sympathy for the old broken-down butler?
